Boxtrail works on your device. Labels, photos and parcel records never leave it unless you share them. There are no accounts, analytics, ads or tracking, and we don’t collect personal data.
Who we are
Boxtrail, the app for iPhone and iPad and this website, is made by Adam Scott Rowe, an independent developer in England. Contact: [email protected]. Under UK data protection law, he is responsible for the small amount of data described below.
What stays on your device
- Shipping labels. Labels carry your buyer’s name and address. Boxtrail opens them on your device to print them and doesn’t keep them afterwards; a parcel’s record keeps only the label’s file name and what was read from it (the carrier, tracking number and marketplace).
- Parcel records: packing photos, the weight, notes, the seal’s code, order screenshots and the order number and total read from them. They’re saved in the app’s own storage on your device. Photos are removed after the keep period you choose (30, 90 or 180 days, or never); delete the app to remove everything.
- Reading text. Tracking numbers and order details are read from labels and screenshots on your device, using Apple’s built-in text recognition. Nothing is sent anywhere to be read.
- Printing goes straight from your device to your printer over Bluetooth, or through the share sheet when you choose to export a PDF.
- The camera and microphone are used only when you take a packing photo or record a packing video. Location and other details are removed from photos when they’re saved. Videos are saved to your Photos library: Boxtrail asks only to add to it, never to read it, and keeps a still from each video with the record.
What a seal shows
Seals are printed for the outside of the parcel, so anyone holding it can read them: the seal’s code, when it was made, the weight if you entered one, and your shop name if you added it. The QR code holds the same. Photos and the buyer’s details never go on a seal.
What we receive
- Nothing from using the app. No accounts, analytics, advertising or tracking.
- Printer reports you send. If a print goes wrong, you can send us a printer report. It says which device and printer you used and how the last print went, and never includes labels, photos or records; you can read it before you send it. It goes through our report service at badgebooth.com to our support mailbox (hosted by Fastmail). If you add your email address, we use it only to reply. We keep reports only as long as we need to fix the problem.
- Emails you send us. If you write to [email protected], we receive your email address and message and use them only to reply.
- This website is hosted by Cloudflare, which processes your IP address and basic request details to deliver the pages and protect them from attacks. We don’t use them to identify you. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy. The site uses no cookies and loads nothing from other websites.
Other services you choose
- Backups. If you choose a backup folder in Settings, Boxtrail copies each parcel’s photos and evidence sheet, and a spreadsheet of your records, to that folder. If it’s in iCloud Drive, Google Drive, Dropbox or OneDrive, that service stores the copies under its own privacy policy. Boxtrail never sees your account.
- Tracking links open the carrier’s own website, under its privacy policy.
- Sharing a PDF or an evidence sheet sends it to the app or person you choose.
Your buyers’ details
The names and addresses on your labels belong to your buyers. Boxtrail keeps them on your device only. If you share an evidence sheet with a marketplace, share only what the dispute needs.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask to see, correct or delete personal data we hold about you, and object to how it’s used. Because Boxtrail doesn’t collect data, the only thing we might hold is an email or printer report you sent us: ask at [email protected] and we’ll reply within a month. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
Changes
If anything here changes, we’ll update this page and the date at the top. If Boxtrail ever needed to collect data, or added an optional backup, we’d say so here before it happened.
